Technology has revolutionised travel and, in particular, the way we select and book our travel destinations and experiences. That revolution is not yet close to finishing. In 2020, travelers want tech to offer them new experiences and make better recommendations which will enrich and simplify their travel experience. They want an app which centralises their travel needs in a whole-of-journey experience. We’re not the only ones thinking this: Booking.com listed tech innovations such as these in their 2020 trend predictions.
These trends towards new, culturally diverse and local experiences and an holistic, all-in-one travel management app are the gaps into which avendi places itself. We aim to make a travelers life easier through our concierge and booking service, whilst harnessing the combined power of local knowledge and technology to offer travelers new experiences; local treasures yet hidden and unknown to the eyes of a tourist.
Here’s a look at avendi – through the eyes of a real user journey heading to Nepal to trek the famous Himalayas and explore Kathmandu. For the purpose of this article, we’ll pretend it’s your trip.
You decide you’re interested in visiting Nepal to tick off a long-time bucket list item: a trek in the Himalayas. You think you want to go to Everest Base Camp, but you’re not sure. You check in with avendi’s Local Guide – as simple as opening Facebook Messenger. Within three minutes, avendi’s Local Guide suggests locals enjoy the popular Everest Base Camp, but to mix it up, there’s also Upper Dolpo (Rara Lake), The Annapurna Circuit, Mustang or a shorter trek, Poon Hill. Seeing these recommended by local adventure influencers, bloggers and professionals, you decide to do further research into these options.
You’ve decided you’re going to do the Annapurna Circuit – the classic and highly favoured circuit in the middle of Nepal. You know your dates, and it’s time to book flights, accommodation and your trekking tour. Heading back to avendi’s Facebook concierge, you book your trek with a locally sourced and approved guide and receive confirmation of your booking.
Once you’re done, a few taps brings you to the concierge Booking Guide. You enter your booking dates for both flights and accommodation, plus your accommodation preferences which are sent to avendi’s in-house team of travel specialists. Whilst you relax or go about your day, avendi’s team research the best available options for your flights and accommodation. Shortly, the best options for both flights and lodging are sent back to you, with links for booking.
You choose the flight option with the shortest duration (it’s been researched and confirmed as the cheapest like-for-like option), and the new, boutique Nepali hotel, where you’ll stay in Kathmandu. Within 5 minutes, you’ve booked and paid for both.
The process of booking your guided trek, flights and accommodation took less than 15 minutes of your time. avendi did the rest, saving you time and finding you the best options for all three bookings.
With your trip getting underway, you realise in your layover destination you’re going to want an active phone whilst you’re in Nepal, and want to get a local SIM card. Unsure how to do it, you open avendi’s Facebook chat once more, and ask to speak to our concierge. Before your next flight takes off, you’ve been connected to avendi’s concierge team, who have recommended to you how and where you’ll be able to get a local SIM and get connected.
Following your amazing trek, you’re left with some time to explore Kathmandu. After a long day exploring the stupas and temples around the city, you’ve got a craving for pizza; not a common Nepali dish. You want to eat, and quickly. Jumping back into the familiar Facebook chat, a query to avendi’s Local Guide for the best pizza in town reveals the top 5 restaurants for sliced heaven, as recommended by Kathmandu’s food bloggers and influencers.
You choose Vera Pizza, a new hole-in-the-wall pizza joint you couldn’t even find on TripAdvisor. They say the pizza is as good as it is in Naples, where the chef learnt his craft. After your meal, you fervently agree.
Work In Progress
This is avendi’s current iteration – the very beginning of our vision. We’ll simplify your journey at every step. We’ll help you travel like a local, giving you new and varied experiences, handpicked by locals of that destination.
Right now, we’re focused on giving you quality recommendations, choosing quality over time improvement. Our early users are finding value in our recommendations, and don’t mind waiting for things such as flight and accommodation options. As our tech grows with our app build, as our team of global influencers and bloggers grows, we’ll be able to serve you faster, whilst improving the quality of our recommendations.
You’ll be able to book your flights and accommodation on our platform, save your trip recommendations to your in-app itinerary, make restaurant bookings and browse the latest news and events in the city as we bring you closer and close to the action.
That’s the avendi vision. To bring your entire travel journey under the one roof, and make you feel as though you’re at home wherever you are.
Why don’t you get your next dream vacation planned with the local insights from here.
